The 1999 World Championships were held at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus (near Athens, Greece) on 21–28 November. Khachatur Kyapanaktsyan set a snatch world record of 170.5 kg in the men's 77 kg class, taking gold in the snatch and finishing 7th in total (360 kg).
Hakob Pilosyan won snatch bronze in the 94 kg class with 182.5 kg. Arsen Melikyan finished 6th in the 77 kg class (360 kg).
