On April 19, 2026, in Batumi, the Armenian team opened its medal account at the European Championships. In the men's 60 kg class, Garnik Cholakyan claimed silver with a 274 kg total.

He lifted 120 and 124 kg in the snatch (silver) and 145 and 150 kg in the clean & jerk (bronze). Bulgaria's Angel Rusev took the European title with 275 kg, edging out Cholakyan by a single kilogram.

This is Cholakyan's second consecutive European silver.
