Day 3 of the 2026 Junior World Weightlifting Championships (May 4) brought Armenia's first medals — albeit in the small-medal format. Two Armenians competed in the men's 71 kg class.
Narek Grigoryan lifted 144 kg in the snatch — winning small gold in that lift. Unfortunately he sustained an injury during the clean & jerk and could not continue, finishing without a total.
Hovhannes Hovhannisyan snatched 130 kg, then in the clean & jerk lifted 171 kg, taking small silver. His 301 kg total tied for third place but he was placed 4th on the bodyweight tiebreaker.
The world title went to the Philippines' Delos Santos with a 326 kg total, including a junior world record of 187 kg in the clean & jerk.
Through three days Armenia has one small gold and one small silver. Still to compete: Narek Mkrtchyan (79 kg, May 5), Meri Misakyan (69 kg, May 5), Anna Amroyan (77 kg, May 6) and others.
