One of the leading male lifters of the Armenian national team — two-time European Champion and World Championship bronze medalist.
In 2023, at age 19, Sahakyan won European gold in the 67 kg class with a 340 kg total (145 + 175). In 2024 he defended his status in the 71 kg class, and in 2025 he took European silver.
In 2024 he also won European U23 gold.
